Austin Seven King Pins

The bottom king pin shown above (broken in two places) is a bit of a mystery. The other components (bushes and axle eyes) were in a serviceable condition. One assumes the second fracture occurred sometime after the first? Maybe the Durfor pins were faulty at the time of manufacture as indicated in articles in the Companion??

This show another problem with the original design..... notice how large the lubrication hole is! From these photographs, you can see why the racing guys choose solid softer king pins.
